World Premier: Angel Touching Down- An Underwater Experience from Artist Christy Lee Rogers’ Music Project: Bayonesse

Angel Touching Down

I have been a longtime fan of artist Christy Lee Rogers, so when she asked me to participate in the creation of the music video for her new musical project Bayonesse, I was in total exhilaration.  I arrived to the shoot feeling quite over-confident, certain that my competitive swimming background and dance training would carry me easily and gracefully through the process.  After my first plunge underwater I came up quickly, feeling terrified and humbled.  What I learned as I continued to push through the physical and mental limitations I experienced- is that the process of this work is the exact intention of Christy’s art.

Bayonesse
“I’m broken deep in mind, self denied Of all the clouds I see, none look so real to me I don’t know how to believe” -Bayonesse

When shooting underwater, with Christy Lee Rogers, there is an initial moment of complete physical terror. You have blown out all of your air, and are underwater in darkness, searching for light, wrapped in in fabric that grabs you and pulls you and covers your face. You body feels like it’s drowning and the physical instinct is to stop and come to the surface and give up completely.

Through this terror you must find grace, through this terror you must find beauty, through this terror you must find peace- and as you take control of this scared animal body of yours and trust the communication of your soul- there, in that brief moment before your lungs are imploding and screaming for air, you can find the truth. And the truth is that you are beautiful and eternal and free- and no matter what trap you find yourself caught in, in this universe, you have the infinite ability to create life…

Elisabeth Donaldson
“The truth is that you are beautiful and eternal and free”

I am so honored to be able to help bring forward this communication in this beautiful creation by Bayoonesse.

“Shooting Elisabeth Donaldson in water was one of the most surreal moments in my career. Her grace and understanding of the power of water was like no other model that I’ve ever shot. Instead of fighting the water and inability to breathe, she used it to find that peace that was there underneath it all.”

Lyrics:

I’m broken deep in mind, self denied
Of all the clouds I see, none look so real to me
I don’t know how to believe
And I see my Angel touching down
Fade away the fear
Abandoned never again
I’ve learned too much to let it in
Empty sweet revenge
Darkened in the heart always
Angel speak to me in that tongue, no hate
I will try to love another day, some other way
And I have faith in lost souls
Who knows what’s right, what’s wrong
I need to find peace inside the lighter things
And I see my Angel touching down
Fade away the fear
Abandoned never again
I’ve learned too much to let it in
Empty sweet revenge
Darkened in the heart always
First flower to appear on land
Blooms and fades away
And why live so deprived
When truth has been denied
One day you’ll be one with fire and ice
And I see my Angel touching down
Fade away the fear
Abandoned never again
I’ve learned too much to let it in
Empty sweet revenge
Darkened in the heart always
